Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Last weekend I finally got around to watching Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. I of course didn’t really like it, but I was comparing it to the book, and no movie can ever compare to the book. Pretty much never, at least. If you forgot about the book, it wasn’t too bad.

I’ll try not to spoil too much, but just a warning, I’m not very good at that. Basically, it starts out with the characters in Camp Half-Blood, and they have a little contest with the big spinning obstacle course. Percy beat Clarisse, another demigod, to the top, but saw that another camper was being dragged by his feet, and went to help him. Clarisse then won and Percy was knocked off.

A small flashback to when Grover, Annabeth, Luke, Thalia occurs, showing Thalia, the daughter of Zeus, sacrificing herself to save the others. Zeus saves her life by turning her into a tree, and that is how the magical barrier around the camp was created. However, in the modern day, somebody poisons Thalia’s tree, therefore weakening the barrier and allowing a Colchis Bull to get through.

Once they find that the tree was poisoned, Annabeth considers finding the Golden Fleece. A Fleece that can heal any wound, she believes that it can save the tree and barrier. Clarisse was chosen to be the demigod to go on this quest, but as always, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover sneak out and do it anyways.

One thing that I really didn’t like about the movie was the end. In the book, the heroes don’t fight Kronos, the head titan, until the last book. In this movie, they fought and defeated Kronos at the end. I have a feeling that’s because they don’t want to make another movie, but who knows?
